Using WordPress to Write a Resume Template

Using WordPress to Write a Resume TemplateWhile the traditional ways of writing a resume for a job position have not changed, the way WordPress resume templates use elements from the platform to create a resume that can be written in a very different way. That's because they are inspired by some of the things that are working on the platform and the templates themselves are built around them. The first thing that you need to know about WordPress is that it is different. It's not just a 'blog' platform like Blogger or WordPress or even the more advanced site that Google launched but is also a full-fledged application. You can use it as a CMS (content management system) where you can organize your website posts, blogs, forums, and so on in a way that's very organized and make sense.WordPress uses XML as a file type and because of this you will want to use a particular version of it that has been specifically tailored to the WordPress platform. There are two types of file types that you should know about: .txt and .html. Most common versions are .txt but there are those that you can still use.You will also want to know that there is a specific extension that's used to describe the content of the file. You will also need to know the format for that. In order to get a good idea of what a template should look like for a WordPress resume you can open it in a text editor and then click on View menu > Text Editor > Format. This will give you a window that you can use to view the file contents and then learn how to insert the text content into the appropriate format. With this information you will now be able to edit a WordPress resume with ease. You will see that the HTML formatting is mostly centered around the header and the content of the body of the document. When you're working with templates that are meant to be used on the web, the layout is usually centered around the title area where you enter the name of the person. This is called a block and it's where you will place all of the information about the person. Then there is the html table, which is the main part of the website. There are a lot of styles you can use but when you are using WordPress this will be the primary format that you will use. This will also contain an open, close, and arrow keys in order to show you how the content should be organized. You'll see the image, title, links, and a few other things, but the actual layout is usually left up to you to do.The next part of a WordPress resume that you will notice is the footer area. The footer contains links back to your website where you would put the resume. This area is usually styled to match the rest of the template and you will probably want to make sure that you have style settings on the page to follow the theme. You will also want to make sure that you have the correct color scheme for the design because you may have several colors or light, dark, or bold colors that you'll need to change out.If you're using the same temp late for the WordPress resume you've been using for your job site then it should be fairly easy to pick up the formatting. A basic job site usually has the same basic layout. It's just a matter of learning the proper formatting.

Technically, Facebook users are five times the size of LinkedIn members. And for that reason alone, job searchers should tap Facebook’s professional networking power. 1. List down your job history and include descriptions of your job and accomplishments. Take time in filling this information for those 65% of recruiters who are trolling for job candidates on Facebook. 2. Leveraging the Brand Created by Your Book - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Leveraging the Brand Created by Your Book - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Although writing a book remains the best way to build your personal brand, writing a book, by itself, is usually not enough. Instead, you must build upon, and leverage, the brand created by your book by consistently promoting   it online and offline. In many ways, writing a book is the first step, or price of admission, that qualifies you for personal branding success. Your ultimate success, however, depends on your ability to constantly leverage your book to greater awareness, credibility, and profits. Your goal is to make your book title and cover familiar to market by exposing it to them as often as possible. Leveraging your book online Here are ways you can leverage your book: Book site. Chances are, you already have a website for your primary business. Although youll certainly be talking about your book on your website while writing itand, when it appears, youll certainly be promoting your book on your websiteyou should also create a website dedicated specifically to your book. The URL of this site, like the title of your book, should contain the keywords prospects use searching for information related to your book. Each of your books should have its own dedicated site, although all should link contain links to your original, or hub, website. Hint: Avoid professionally-designed hostage websites you cannot update yourself. Hire a qualified designer to set-up a blog-based website for your book, then have them update your website to a blog-based site you can maintain and update. Article marketing. In addition to writing about your books on your own and your books website, you should begin to submit short articles addressing topics related to your book in article portals, like Ezinearticles.com. Each article creates its own SEO visibility, introducing you to prospective book buyers. The resource box should contain a link to a landing page containing more information about your book, a free registration incentive, and a link to your website. Newsletter. Newsletters make it easy to keep in constant touch with your clients, prospects, and readers. The title of your newsletter should be obviously related to the words used in your book title and subtitle. Likewise, the colors used in your newsletter, whether your newsletter is distributed as a formatted PDF or an HTML e-mail, should be the same as those used on the cover of your book. Business card. Your business card should contain the title and cover photograph of your latest book, as well as a link to the website or landing page containing more information. Hint: Most business cards are printed on one side only; this is a waste of a valuable promotional opportunity. If the front of your business card describes you, and shows your picture, feature your book on the back of your card. One-Sheets. A one-sheet is a single-page, single-sided document used as a sales tool to introduce your book to prospective buyers and resellers. Each of your books should have its own one-sheet, available as an attractively-formatted, downloadable PDF.   One-sheets should be designed as advertisements, with a headline that will engage the attention of prospective readers and compel them to continue reading. Other elements should include one or two paragraphs describing your books purpose and intended market. There should be a bullet list of key benefits, and 1 or 2 testimonials. There should also be a sidebar which builds a bridge between your book and your qualifications for writing it. Postcards. Postcards are especially valuable now that the volume of postal mail has declined, making it easier and easier for a brightly-colored postcard to attract the recipients attention. Postcards are especially valuable for authors interested in communicating with previous prospects and clients where only their postal mailing addresses are known. Guest blogging. Although you probably already have a blog, and are planning to add one to your books website, you may be neglecting reaching out to new prospects by preparing guest posts for other blogs in your field, or serving your market. Most bloggers appreciate the new perspective provided by guests posting on their blog. Hint. Always check whether or not the blogs youre interested in writing for want original content, or if you can submit rewrites of posts that have already run elsewhere. Audios and videos. Podcasts and videos are ideal for introducing your book to website visitors, as well as reaching out while writing your book. Hint: an easy idea way to build traction for your book is to begin with a short introductory video explaining why youre writing your book. Then, you can follow-up with individual progress videos as you complete each chapter. Dont try to communicate the details of each chapter; just provide a conversational description of the relevance of each chapter and a few key details or anecdotes that tell the story behind the chapter. Presentation template. One of the best ways to prepare for promoting your book as well as leveraging it into back-end profits through presentations, worksheets, and DVDs is to create a PowerPoint template based on the colors and layout used on the cover of your book. Once you have a template that contains a cover slide, a text slide, and a conclusion slide, youll be able to quickly create good-looking presentation visuals for specific occasions or downloading. Speeches. Even if you are not interested in becoming an internationally known speaker, you should cultivate speaking opportunities. Each time you speak, youll gain new followers and become more comfortable speaking in front of an audience. Hint: Start by identifying 2 or 3 list-based topics based on your book, i.e., 7 Ways to or 6 Often-overlooked The reason to base your speeches on numbers is that you can easily expand or condense the topic for the amount of available time. Prepare one-sheets describing each of your speech topics, and make them available for easy downloading from your website. Implications The importance of being able to leverage the brand created by your book brings up several interesting implications: Negotiating Your Rights. Unless youre self-publishing your book,   you need qualified agency representation to protect your abilities to leverage the brand created by your book. Your publishing contract should specify exactly what you can, and cannot, do in terms of using your book title and subtitle as key elements in a lecture or seminar series, audio and video recordings, and e-courses. You must retain the right to develop new content and projects based on your book, even if you ultimately move to a different publisher. Marketing and promotion never end. No matter how successful your first book is, you must commit to continuing to leverage and promote it to new audiences, new prospects, and new readers. Everything listed above doesnt have to be created at once, but there isnt a single silver bullet to success. Success is cumulative. The minute you fail to actively leverage your books brand, you and your book begin to lose ground. Qualified Design Assistance. As you can see from the above list, you either need to cultivate your own design abilities in order to build upon, or adapt, the image established by the cover of your book. To do this, and create new print and online marketing tools, you either need to know how to work with graphic images or know who you you can depend on to build upon your brand. Hint: Develop the habit of design once, produce often. Dont hire a designer to start from scratch on every project. Instead, hire graphic designers to create templates that you can easily work with, and produce, yourself with the skills you already possess. Writing a book opens the door to endless opportunities and possibilities. However, its up to you to consistently leverage the brand created by your book into an ongoing search for new clients, prospects, and readers. Author: Best-selling author and book coach Roger C. The Future of Happiness, With Amy Blankson [Podcast] - Career Pivot

The Future of Happiness, With Amy Blankson [Podcast] - Career Pivot Episode 23 â€" 5 Modern Strategies for Balancing Productivity and Well-Being in the Digital Era Description: Amy Blankson is Marc’s guest in this episode. Amy has become one of the world’s leading experts on the connection between positive psychology and technology. She is the only person to be named a point of light by two presidents, President George Bush, Sr., and President Bill Clinton, for creating a movement to activate positive cultural change. A sought-after speaker and consultant, Amy has now worked with organizations like Google, NASA, The U.S. Army, and the XPRIZE Foundation, to help foster a sense of well-being in the digital era. Amy received her BA from Harvard, and MBA from Yale School of Management. Most recently she was a featured professor at Oprah’s Happiness course. Amy is the co-author, with Shawn Achor, of award-winning children’s book, Ripple’s Effect, and the mother of three girls who remind her on a daily basis why it’s so important to create a happier future for all. Marc and Amy discuss Amy’s family background in psychology, positive psychology, and happiness, and focus on her new book, The Future of Happiness, 5 Modern Strategies for Balancing Productivity and Well-Being in the Digital Era. They cover several questions about the effects of technology today, near future, and the three personas related to technology. Listen in for tips on making technology a positive tool for good in your life. Download Link |iTunes|Stitcher Radio|Google Podcast|Podbean|TuneIn|Overcast Key Takeaways: [3:09] Amy recalls a childhood scuffle, in which her brother, Shawn Achor, to forestall her imminent outraged outburst, convinced her she was a unicorn. By diverting her attention from his injustice, he turned her anger into awe. Amy was raised in a family of psychologists, and is anxious to share what she has learned about happiness. [4:43] Amy starts her book with three questions: Where are we heading? Would we be better off without tech? What will happiness look like? Amy explains why she chose those questions. Her book came out of her experiences with her company, Goodthink, a positive psychology consulting firm. [6:43] When Pandora’s box was opened, evil and pestilence were released, and the one thing left in the bottom of the box was hope. We have some really powerful tools that have been unleashed. Things can be used for bad or for good. As a society, we need to think about how can we use technology to its best and highest purposes. [7:55] Technology helps us live longer; it can supply 3D printed organs to replace failing ones. Children born without a hand can have a 3D printed one within a week for under $30.00. Technology helps us manage our finances, and frees us up for more quality family time. [8:19] We also have technology that is so distracting that the human attention span has dropped below that of a goldfish, to under 8 seconds. What do we do about that now, to change the trajectory for the future, so our technology is not distracting but propels us forward? [10:02] Research shows that happiness and technology can be balanced. Technology is only a means to the end. We have to train the operators to use things better. Amy refers to the when, where, why, and how of using technology. It depends on intentionality. [11:05] Are you using technology to connect, or to journal, or are you using it to check out, so you don’t have to talk to your spouse? Start your day by writing down your tech intention. You are 42% more likely to achieve your written goals. Be accountable to your intentions. The technology will not do that for you. [13:04] What about solitaire on your iPad! Check your time. Don’t fall off the “happiness cliff.” Games can turn from a diversion into a fixation. Some games and puzzles, like Sudoku, can help prevent dementia. [15:49] Who are the embracers, the accepters, and the resisters? Amy says that people define themselves by their attitude toward technology. When you embrace your persona, you can set your course how you will make technology work for you. You may like some technology, such as medical equipment, but not smart phones. [18:34] Amy is doing some original research around the connection between your tech persona, and some of the stressors that you feel. What does she find about resisters and stress? To reduce stress, try to see technology more as a challenge than a threat. [19:47] Tunnel vision and confirmation bias can lead you astray, when you are first introduced to a new technology. Amy says a positive and engaged brain activates dopamine in your system, and activates the learning centers in your brain, which enables you to see new possibilities. Keep an open mind, and it will be easier to use. [21:30] Tech is not a toxin, it is a tool we need to learn to wield effectively. Research shows that a tech detox does not bring happiness. If you keep setting happiness at the end of an event, you eventually push it over the cognitive horizon. Approach technology with happiness and a growth mindset, and that will mold how you use the technology. [24:11] Amy discusses the positive use of Fitbit and other wellness tools, and relates them to her father’s medical concerns. Technology can be used as tools for happiness for years to come. They will become more user-friendly in years to come. Finding Peace in Your Day Overcoming the Daily Rush

Finding Peace in Your Day â€" Overcoming the Daily Rush With full workloads and long hours spent behind a desk, it’s easy to get stressed. However, rushing your way through tasks will decrease the quality of your work. In addition, stress can seriously damage your health. Start your day right When you wake up in the morning, begin your day with some stretching exercises or a gentle yoga workout to get your body functioning and in harmony with your mind. Afterwards, spend a few minutes meditating. Next, eat your breakfast â€" the most important meal of the day. Excellent healthy options include fresh seasonal fruits (eaten whole, with unsweetened yoghurt, in smoothies, or dozens of other creative ways), whole-wheat or seeded toast, eggs and coffee (with no sugar). If you have a proper breakfast, your energy levels will remain stable through the day until lunchtime, and hunger pangs won’t distract you from your work. Try your best to leave the house calm and centred, so you will feel less stressed during your commute! Plan and organise Prioritise your workload and manage your time wisely, using to-do lists if they help you. Calmly think through your day, and revisit the plans you have made â€" removing anything inessential. Be realistic about how long each task will take you to complete and allow a little extra time. Try to get your smaller necessary tasks â€" such as replying emails or making phone calls â€" completed early in the day. That way, these smaller tasks won’t nag at the back of your mind while you work on more important projects. Don’t take on too much Learn how to say no. Excuse yourself from meetings that won’t benefit you or where your presence is not strictly necessary. Decline tasks if you are cannot dedicate the time necessary to complete them effectively. Make sure that everything you do receives your full attention and your best work so you can feel satisfied with jobs well done. Don’t get distracted Put your phone away while working â€" it’s amazing how much time can suddenly ‘disappear’ checking social media. Make your work area comfortable and peaceful. Place a plant on your desk. Use an ergonomic keyboard and mouse that will put less strain on your wrists and neck. If possible, have different seating options to work from, or at least get up and stretch or walk around at regular intervals. Taking breaks to move around can help you to stay focused and inspired and get your tasks done better and faster. Keep moving even when you’re seated Sitting still behind a desk for hours on end has negative health implications, and also reduces productivity and creativity. Keep yourself focused by doing seated exercises like glute squeezes or leg raises. Other options include saddle seats or rocking footrests.  Lunch Avoid the canteen and the fast food joints. Prepare yourself a healthy sandwich or cooked meal the night before. If the weather is good, you could walk to a peaceful spot in a local park, beach, or other natural space and enjoy your lunch out in the fresh air. Surrounding yourself with greenery can re-energise and revitalise you for the afternoon ahead. Mentally revise your plan for the day and ensure everything is going to schedule.   Make any necessary adjustments so that by the end of the day you feel satisfied with your progress. After work Make time for physical activity during your free time, such gym workouts or a game of squash. If you must take work home with you, ensure you stop working at least a couple of hours before bedtime. Use the time just before bedtime to organise your things for tomorrow. Lay out your clothes and make your lunch â€" then read, take a bath, or practise a hobby. Wind down. Go to bed at a reasonable time in a dark, well-ventilated room to ensure a good night’s rest. Whenever she can, Johanna begins her day with some quiet meditation time outside in nature â€" which gives her much-needed peace and clarity to get her through the day. How to know you need one-on-one coaching ( not another course) - When I Grow Up

How to know you need one-on-one coaching ( not another course) - When I Grow Up Since the beginning of this year, I’ve honed my work to be made up of three main programs: Discover Your Dream Business, a small group course for those who want to, um, discover their dream businesses 90 Day Business Launch, a one-on-one program for those who, uh, want to launch their business in 90 days (I’m nothing if not obvious) Build Your Client Base, a 6-month mastermind for those who, uh, you know It might have been super natural for me to stop my customized coaching program. Lots of coaches do this, honestly especially those who’ve been at it for 10 years like I have! The coach’s business model usually starts as weekly one-on-one sessions, and then turns into group coaching, and then turns into courses, and then the coach realizes that they don’t need to do one-on-one coaching anymore and they let it go. But me? I do this work because, selfishly, I’m a relationship builder. You won’t find me doing many one-off sessions because, well, I want to take the journey with my client, working closely with them as they discover, launch, and/or build their dream business. It allows me to not only give them the best results (as opposed to “Here’s the clarity and action steps you need now you’re on your own!”), but to have them build a super strong foundation for continuing their business success on their own. While I love my programs and the results they give my clients for less money than a personalized coaching relationship, I have no intention to stop offering individualized sessions. Which brings up the question for you, dear reader: “How do I know whether I need a program or a one-on-one coaching package?” The short video below not only lays out for you how you can decide, but will also help you figure out which coach is right for you! Watch it now: How to know you need one-on-one coaching ( not another course) from WhenIGrowUpCoach on Vimeo. Left with questions about your own situation? Leave them below and I’ll answer ‘em ASAP! If you’re ready to work with me one-on-one, sign up here for exclusive access to my apps tomorrow. Get ready to save $1500 with 2018 prices for a Jan 2019 start!
