Finding Peace in Your Day Overcoming the Daily Rush
Finding Peace in Your Day â" Overcoming the Daily Rush With full workloads and long hours spent behind a desk, itâs easy to get stressed. However, rushing your way through tasks will decrease the quality of your work. In addition, stress can seriously damage your health. Start your day right When you wake up in the morning, begin your day with some stretching exercises or a gentle yoga workout to get your body functioning and in harmony with your mind. Afterwards, spend a few minutes meditating. Next, eat your breakfast â" the most important meal of the day. Excellent healthy options include fresh seasonal fruits (eaten whole, with unsweetened yoghurt, in smoothies, or dozens of other creative ways), whole-wheat or seeded toast, eggs and coffee (with no sugar). If you have a proper breakfast, your energy levels will remain stable through the day until lunchtime, and hunger pangs wonât distract you from your work. Try your best to leave the house calm and centred, so you will feel less stressed during your commute! Plan and organise Prioritise your workload and manage your time wisely, using to-do lists if they help you. Calmly think through your day, and revisit the plans you have made â" removing anything inessential. Be realistic about how long each task will take you to complete and allow a little extra time. Try to get your smaller necessary tasks â" such as replying emails or making phone calls â" completed early in the day. That way, these smaller tasks wonât nag at the back of your mind while you work on more important projects. Donât take on too much Learn how to say no. Excuse yourself from meetings that wonât benefit you or where your presence is not strictly necessary. Decline tasks if you are cannot dedicate the time necessary to complete them effectively. Make sure that everything you do receives your full attention and your best work so you can feel satisfied with jobs well done. Donât get distracted Put your phone away while working â" itâs amazing how much time can suddenly âdisappearâ checking social media. Make your work area comfortable and peaceful. Place a plant on your desk. Use an ergonomic keyboard and mouse that will put less strain on your wrists and neck. If possible, have different seating options to work from, or at least get up and stretch or walk around at regular intervals. Taking breaks to move around can help you to stay focused and inspired and get your tasks done better and faster. Keep moving even when youâre seated Sitting still behind a desk for hours on end has negative health implications, and also reduces productivity and creativity. Keep yourself focused by doing seated exercises like glute squeezes or leg raises. Other options include saddle seats or rocking footrests. Lunch Avoid the canteen and the fast food joints. Prepare yourself a healthy sandwich or cooked meal the night before. If the weather is good, you could walk to a peaceful spot in a local park, beach, or other natural space and enjoy your lunch out in the fresh air. Surrounding yourself with greenery can re-energise and revitalise you for the afternoon ahead. Mentally revise your plan for the day and ensure everything is going to schedule. Make any necessary adjustments so that by the end of the day you feel satisfied with your progress. After work Make time for physical activity during your free time, such gym workouts or a game of squash. If you must take work home with you, ensure you stop working at least a couple of hours before bedtime. Use the time just before bedtime to organise your things for tomorrow. Lay out your clothes and make your lunch â" then read, take a bath, or practise a hobby. Wind down. Go to bed at a reasonable time in a dark, well-ventilated room to ensure a good nightâs rest. Whenever she can, Johanna begins her day with some quiet meditation time outside in nature â" which gives her much-needed peace and clarity to get her through the day. How to know you need one-on-one coaching ( not another course) - When I Grow Up
How to know you need one-on-one coaching ( not another course) - When I Grow Up Since the beginning of this year, Iâve honed my work to be made up of three main programs: Discover Your Dream Business, a small group course for those who want to, um, discover their dream businesses 90 Day Business Launch, a one-on-one program for those who, uh, want to launch their business in 90 days (Iâm nothing if not obvious) Build Your Client Base, a 6-month mastermind for those who, uh, you know It might have been super natural for me to stop my customized coaching program. Lots of coaches do this, honestly especially those whoâve been at it for 10 years like I have! The coachâs business model usually starts as weekly one-on-one sessions, and then turns into group coaching, and then turns into courses, and then the coach realizes that they donât need to do one-on-one coaching anymore and they let it go. But me? I do this work because, selfishly, Iâm a relationship builder. You wonât find me doing many one-off sessions because, well, I want to take the journey with my client, working closely with them as they discover, launch, and/or build their dream business. It allows me to not only give them the best results (as opposed to âHereâs the clarity and action steps you need now youâre on your own!â), but to have them build a super strong foundation for continuing their business success on their own. While I love my programs and the results they give my clients for less money than a personalized coaching relationship, I have no intention to stop offering individualized sessions. Which brings up the question for you, dear reader: âHow do I know whether I need a program or a one-on-one coaching package?â The short video below not only lays out for you how you can decide, but will also help you figure out which coach is right for you! Watch it now: How to know you need one-on-one coaching ( not another course) from WhenIGrowUpCoach on Vimeo. Left with questions about your own situation? Leave them below and Iâll answer âem ASAP! Female CEOs Almost No New CEOs Hired in 2015 Were Women
Female CEOs Almost No New CEOs Hired in 2015 Were Women Not only do women have to contend with the gender pay gap at work, but workplace discrimination is apparent in the corner office, as well. Last year, female executives around the world landed a measly 3% of the new CEO positions that opened even though the chief executive turnover rate was nearly 17%, according to a PwC analysis. At companies in the U.S. and Canada, things were even worse: Women made up fewer than 1% of the new CEOs brought on last year, the lowest number in the 16 years PwC has been conducting the study. By Bloombergâs count, there was literally only a single woman promoted to the top spot in the entire United States last year: MSG Networksâ Andrea Greenberg. Whatâs more, the problem isnât limited to just new female CEOs. Women comprise only about one in five corporate board members, and they only run about 4% of companies in the SP 500. âCompanies need to do more than theyâre doing today to get talented women to be promoted to CEO,â PwC exec DeAnne Aguirre â" stating the obvious â" told Bloomberg. Read next: How to Deal With Sexual Harassment At Work Companies that had a rough year, like those in energy and materials, were more likely to replace their CEOs, but these are industries with longstanding reputations as boysâ clubs, Aguirre pointed out.

3 Steps To Help You Master The Art Of Delegation - Work It Daily
3 Steps To Help You Master The Art Of Delegation - Work It Daily One of the great opportunities of leadership is the delegation of tasks to others, which not only frees up your time to be more strategic but also develops those employees to whom youâve delegated. Related: 6 Career Management Hacks That Will Get You Ahead Although it is a great opportunity for leaders, it is also a great challenge. Delegating means letting go of a fair amount of, if not all of, the control associated with the way tasks are completed. I find this to be a struggle for many leaders, myself included. As the owner of my business, I find that letting go of tasks and delegating to others can be quite a challenge at times. What if they donât do it right? What if they donât get it done on time? What if they upset the clients? These âwhat ifâsâ can go on forever! I've tortured myself through many of them and I've seen many of my clients do the same. What Iâve learned, both personally and through working with others in this area, are some key steps to take to ease concerns about delegating to others. First, you want to have a high degree of confidence in the people you delegate to; therefore, be diligent in your selection of those you hire to work for you. Often times leaders are in a hurry to get a position filled so do not take enough time to be sure they are making the best selection. Without confidence that you have the best people on your team, delegating can be difficult. Yet, when you know youâve got the right people in place, it is much easier to delegate with assurance. Second, you will probably need a fair amount of updates and status checks on how your team is doing with the tasks. (Usually I need more updates and status checks early in the relationship.) Once you get to know the individuals and their work ethic, and your relationship develops, the amount of check-ins decreases because the expectations are well understood, and your confidence in their ability to meet your expectations increases. Lastly, you want to change any âwhat ifâ comments from negative to positive. So, instead of thinking, âWhat if they donât do it right?â try, âWhat if they do it better than I ever could?â Or, âWhat if this works out better than I thought?â That mindset shift will help you expect the best as opposed to expecting things to go wrong. Does this mean things never go wrong? Of course not but it certainly sets up an environment that is more expectant of success than if you continue to think of all the possible ways things could go wrong. Although this is not always easy for leaders, letting go of control and delegating is necessary and highly beneficial for all. It not only enables you, the leader, to focus on more strategic items but it motivates your workforce to take on more responsibility and fosters more employee development. This monthâs development tip: Have you mastered the art of delegation? If so, congratulations! Weâd love to hear some of your success tactics so please visit our Facebook wall and share! If not, follow the suggested steps in this monthâs article; with each step you should begin to get more comfortable with letting go. This post was originally published at an earlier date. 11 Things You Should Do For Yourself This August
11 Things You Should Do For Yourself This August August is finally here (hooray) and for many women, its the quietest time of the year at work. That means its a great time for some rest and relaxation - and you should be sure to take time off from work while its quiet. Its also a great time to break free of routine, try new things, and be introspective about whats going on your life. So here are 11 tips that can help you make the most of some extra time you have in August, and feel reenergized when things get busy again in September.1) Take a class. Is there a new workout youve been meaning to try? Or a class youve been interested in taking? Maybe youve wanted to try out a new recipe or take a day trip. Its so easy to get caught in our routines, and when we finally get time off, we usually want to just be lazy and do nothing.Dont get me wrong...There is plenty of value in doing nothing. But be sure to carve out some time over the next few weeks to try something youve been wanting to d o. For example there are so many new cool workouts these days, from barre to SoulCycle to boot camp to Lagree. See if you can find a new one you love. Check out ClassPass to explore options near you. If working out is not your thing, maybe take a cooking class, or one in floral arrangement.Or visit Coursera and see about taking an online class in that subject that fascinated you in college but you havent thought about in years. (Example for me, its species history.) 2) Read a good book. You know that amazing feeling of accomplishment when you make your way through a great book? Check out this list of 30 books everyone should read, and pick one to get through this August. It will make you feel like you did something really constructive, and chances are youll enjoy every minute.3) Read a trashy book.Sometimes nothing is more satisfying that curling up with a trashy beach read...and if youre on the beach this August, thats the perfect distributions-mix to enjoy one Check out the best op tions for Summer 2016 from PopSugar here. 4) Go see some art. When was the last time you visited a museum or an art gallery? Or went to hear the symphony? Make it a priority to find a wonderful piece of art in your town and go see it. Youll walk away feeling inspired.5) Clean out your closet.Even if you did Spring cleaning, by now, its likely your closet has gotten out of control. Its time to get rid of the clothes that youre really never going to wear again or that dont fit you right. As my mother likes to say, when in doubt, throw it out - or at least take it donate it to Goodwill. Get your closet in gear for the fall season, which is full of important commitments and fun celebrations. For some good advice, you can read here on Goop how Gwyneth Paltrow does it.6) Buy a new fall look.Go shopping, and buy a fab new outfit that will make you feel confident and polished at work this fall. Its always better to have something new when you confront your closet in the morning and ask that age-old, what should I wear? question.Make it a great investment by buying something versatile and well-made. That way, it should last for years to come. Check out our friends at MM. LaFleur for really beautiful yet practical workwear that will make you shine at your next presentation.7) Reconnect with an old friend. Is there a friend who you havent managed to catch up with in a while? Go out of your way to make a plan to see him or her. Meet for dinner, coffee, or even schedule a phone catch-up. Life can be so busy these days...and its important not to lose those fundamental friendships. Sometimes, theres nothing like some quiet time with someone who knows you just so well.8) Volunteer. This has been a brutal year in terms of bad news across the world. Sometimes, we all feel so powerless. Now that you have some time off, it might just feed your soul a little to seek out a volunteer opportunity in your community and spend some time giving back to those less fortunate. Find a cause you are personally connected to. You never know what you might learn or experience when you get more involved.9) Buy a new piece of furniture.Nothing that feels better than coming home to a home you love. How long has it been since you updated your decor? Check out a Viyet, a new site that we love, where you can buy beautiful consigned furniture at very appealing prices.10) Take some time just for you.Go do nothing. Sit on a park bench or a beach. Take a walk or a hike. Try some meditation. (Check out Headspace, an awesome, easy meditation app we love.)11) Take some time to think about your job and your career. Now that you can breathe for a minute, its a great time to reflect about your year at work so far. Has it met your expectations? Do you feel excited and energized by the work youre doing? Do you feel it has the potential and opportunity you hope it should? If youre not certain, its a great time to do a little career window shopping. Write down exactly what it is you want in a job , and what your career objectives are. Spend some time online checking out companies you that interest you, and check for available jobs. Fairygodboss is a great place to do your research, if we do say so ourselves...Make a career plan of action for the rest of the year, write it down, and hang it up on your fridge.
